Acme 365 Day 50% OFF Backstock Sale!
Getting on top of the Backstock Sale has never been more important than now, in the wake of the Quarter Sale. Go back over the bundles of book you picked up, figure out what holes you have in the runs, and fill them for half the price!
The Letter of the Week is: B
- Captain America - much of volume 1, Mark Waid and Ron Garney's launch of volume 3 (with Skrulls!), John Cassaday and Jae Lee's launch of volume 4 and Dave Gibbons and Lee Weeks' "Cap Lives" there-in, and every single issue of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's volume 5!
- Catwoman - maybe you were once like me and thought, "why would I ever want to read Catwoman?" Well, because Ed Brubaker wrote it, and he launched volume 2 with Darwyn Cooke and Mike Allred and went on to blow the doors off it with Cameron Stewart and fill-ins by Scott Morse. Everything is gold into the 30's when Paul Gulacy comes on!
- Civil War - Cap's still dead. The Initiative is still churning out registered heroes. Iron Man is still Director of SHIELD. It's obvious at this point that the effects of Civil War were much more than a flash in the pan, and though you may have picked up the 7 issue limited series, you might have missed one of the tie-ins! Paul Jenkins (Sentry) takes Sally Floyd and Ben Urich to the streets in Frontline. Captain Marvel comes back before his limited series in the Return. Iron Man says a private goodbye to Cap in the Confession. Cap and Iron Man duke it out one on one in Casualties of War. Marc Guggenheim and Leinel Yu set up Warren Ellis' Thunderbolts, Robert Kirkman and Phil Hester set up Irredeemable Ant-man, Brubaker, Fraction, and David Aja set up Immortal Iron Fist, and Mike Oeming and Scott Kolins set up Omega Flight ALL in Choosing Sides (you don't have the full story of any of these books without their origins in this one!).
- Criminal - you miss out on so much by just picking up the trade, including commentary by Brubaker, reviews and essays about the nature of crime noir, and some of the most appropriate and enticing ads you've ever seen!
Honorable Mentions: Cable, Cable and Deadpool, Captain Marvel (including the early issues of the latest mini series), Greg Rucka's Checkmate, Civil War: Fallen Son with Jeph Loeb, Leinil Yu, Ed McGuiness, John Romita Jr., David Finch, and John Cassaday, Chris Claremont and John Byrne's Classic X-Men, Conan, Concrete, Countdown, Countdown Presents the Search for Ray Palmer, Countdown Presents Lord Havok and the Extremists, Countdown Arena, Countdown to Adventure, Countdown to Mystery, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Crux, and Cyberforce.
