Acme First Look #314 for 11.13.13

I want to thank everyone that's complimented me on my new tattoo! It's one that I've been thinking about for a very long time, partially because my position as an employee of the store as opposed to an owner, and the security/ possession of the brand/ business therein, and partly because I haven't gotten a new tattoo in almost ten years, so the idea of the pain was all new again.

Below are some of the gory details, from the template, to the aftermath, to a the results a few days out. I went to Sam King at Golden Spiral Studios, proud sponsors of Comic Book City Con, and I would go back in a second should another bat or some other inspiration compel me!

Stephen's So-Called Emo Life!

  • Smartest Man in the World - good call by Cody, this podcast starring Greg Proops, probably best known as a regular on Who's Line is it Anyway, got me through the hour and a half ordeal in Sam's chair! The accent does take some getting used to, though. Mature listeners!
  • Thor the Dark World - saw it Tuesday! We won't be discussing it on Acmecast this week because it's one of our CBCC panel presentations tomorrow, but I'm more than happy to chat about it. I agree with Cody that it was the best superhero movie since Avengers, a period last including Amazing Spider-man, Dark Knight Rises, Iron Man 3, Kick-Ass 2, and probably some others. Watch the short Loki bumper for Comedy Central above to get in the mood!
  • The FP - sold to me by Smitty as a "DDR documentary", I'll be straight with you and say it's Mad Max meets Over the Top with a game called Beat Beat Revelation at the heart. Lost Ark should probably do a screening sometime in the near future. Available for streaming on Netflix, but only for mature viewers!
  • Nitro Circus the Movie - I was always more of a Jackass guy, as evidenced by my excitement about Bad Grandpa recently, but I checked out the feature length stunt show fronted by Travis Pastrana, also available on Netflix, and was super impressed!
  • How Did This Get Made #75 "Daredevil" - the general idea behind the podcast is that Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas from the League and June Diane Raphael from Burning Love discuss a critically, popularly or produced failure of a film, and in this case Daredevil starring Ben Affleck with guest Ed Brubaker. I mention this episode in particular because it's so refreshing to hear not only a regular cast of self-affessed "nerds" on a show actually know what they're talking about (Jason & Paul both seem to have read at least Frank Miller's entire run on the Man Without Fear, as well as Bendis & Brubaker's work), but also hear an expert in the field, in this case Brubaker, that isn't being talked down to or trying to put himself on the same level as the guests because everyone is just having a good time!
