To get Greensboro pumped for “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” the new hit comic book comedy film from “Shaun of the Dead” director Edgar Wright, WUAG 103.1 FM and ACME Comics presents the “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” Street Fighter Tournament.
This explosive video game tournament and movie premiere will be a two-night event that rolls music, a movie premiere, and yes, one of the greatest video games of all time into one of the biggest parties of the summer.
"Round One... FIGHT!": It all starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, August 7 when we host the Qualifying Round at ACME Comics on 2150 Lawndale Drive. Players will assemble to test their Street Fighter skills in this double-elimination tournament with the hopes of making it to the FINAL FOUR and win SWEET PRIZES. There will also be snacks and refreshments, and a DJ set.
"Round Two... WATCH": Then at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, August 12 the FINAL FOUR Street Fighters will reconvene at the Carousel Luxury Cinemas on 1305 Battleground Avenue for the premiere of “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.” There, they will play against each other on the Carousel’s BIGGEST SCREEN in front of a live audience in hopes of winning the top prize of $100.
As an added bonus, the winner shall take on a “MYSTERY CHALLENGER” for a special prize that would make any Street Fighter’s head EXPLODE!
After the competition, the party will continue with the midnight premiere of “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.”
Registration is $5 for the August 6 double-elimination tournament. Each competitor will also be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 free tickets to the film premiere on August 12. To sign up, simply visit ACME Comics no later than 7 p.m. on the same day as the first round of the tournament.
Tournament Rules:
- The game and system of choice will be “Street Fighter 2 HD” on the XBOX 360.
- All players will use standard XBOX 360 wireless controls.
- The game will be played via default settings, handicaps, and button configurations.
- No excessive trash talk or cursing.
- No real fighting.
- Have fun!
