RE: Comics! #18 [GGCC Round-Up]

Pearce Elementary Bookworm Boys (and Girls) Q&A

Thanks to everyone that came out to our G-Man's Greensboro Cape Crisis event this Saturday. If you didn't make it out, allow your jaw to drop and your mouth to water as you check out over 200 of the sketches Gregg and the rest our guests (Chris Giarrusso, Art Baltazar, Jacob Chabot, Brian Smith, Ian Flynn, and Michael Watkins) cranked out in less than 8 hours!

Stephen Mayer: In a way, this is something that Gregg and I have both been moving towards in our professional careers for the better part of year. At a time when Jermaine and I hadn't put together any huge, professional creator signings, I was already asking Gregg to drop what he was doing and come on out to the store. Gregg, a veteran of the industry for over a decade, was also trying to position his new creator-owned characters in such a way that he'd have a product to promote. With G-Man Cape Crisis and the timely announcement of X-Babies at HeroesCon, right in our own backyard, the stars really seemed to align for something special.

On a personal level, this was probably the most enjoyable event I've been a part of here at Acme. While FCBD is much larger in scope, it keeps me up at night for weeks in advance and leaves me shaking from exhaustion at the end of the day. Having gotten the chance to meet Chris and Gregg at HeroesCon and Smitty and Jacob at Baltimore Comic Con last year and developing my relationships with all four of those guys throughout Marvel March Madness, HeroesCon this year, SDCC, and all the months in between alleviated a lot of the pressure these situations usually present. I had a rich and wonderful opportunity to hang out with a bunch of my friends for very near 48 hours straight.

And I don't think I've ever been cracked up by anyone as much as Art Baltazar.

Having so much success with the variant cover really blows open my mind about what we can accomplish here at the store, and that's all from being on the receiving end of wonderful friends in the industry and here in the store.

Gregg Schigiel: This past weekend was a whirlwind of comics, signing, sketches, handshakes, fist-bumps, Biff Burgers, bibimbop, biscuits, BBQ, brownies, cookies, cobbler, cake, talking, laughs and hush puppies (you’ll note sleep is not on that list) at the Acme Comics “Greensboro G-Man Cape Crisis event.

I had a blast. Special thanks to Jermaine and Stephen for their hard work and their support for the work of my fellow cartoonists and I. Thanks to the rest of the Acme crew who were on hand to help out: Ian, Matt, Adam, Carly, Tre, Melissa, Julie, JR, the fella who handled the trivia (Joe, was it?), the dude dressed as G-Man, young Dylan for his interview skills, and everyone else who played a role.

Thanks to the students and staff of Pearce Elementary for having us. And my apologies for not remembering the names of you whose names I’ve not retained. I tried...I’m just not great with names. Faces...that’s a whole other story. But regardless, I thank you all for making it a great time.

Until next week, when Stephen and I get to blabbin’ about whatever new thing is on our minds...
