I was never very attentive during mass on Christmas Day. While the choir sang praises and the priest wished good tidings on all, I figgeted in my seat, admiring all of the new clothes and Gameboys that the other kids in the pews had already unwrapped that morning.

Part of the deal, or "tradition," as it's come to be known around our house is that we don't open our presents until AFTER church. No midnight mass to bump up the time frame. No one present Christmas Eve evening. No box shaking.

Books have been some of the greatest Christmas presents that I've ever received.

 

To some jubilant, some distressing, and some tragic, the holiday season officially started with Black Friday, though some mainstream outlets seem to think that Labor Day denotes that you can no longer wear white and it's fair game to put out your Christmas decorations.
