Acme First Look #222 for 2.8.12

Had a rough night. Shouldn't have eaten that whole pizza just to prove to Frank that I could. Spent three hours dreaming that I was editing a podcast. Not the one that we recorded last night, but a completely imaginary show that is now lost to the ether. My throat was really dry and I had already drained the bottle of water on the end table.

But, man, when I woke up and saw the sun shining and felt that spring-like air on my face, it turned everything around!

And all the while you'll be supporting the Masonic Children's Home in Oxford, NC!

Acme First Look #220 for 1.25.12

I find myself pushing a lot of books for next week that I'm NOT picking up myself, but my loss is certainly your gain! Even though I'm not going in for a double dip, I still own them all in some format and can't recommend the content or the packages at their price enough!

Adam and I brought back the long defunct What's This, A Podcast or Something? over at the Acme Wave Projector! When we began it back in 2010, we were psyched about the idea of having a podcast network with multiple shows, but at the time we didn't really possess the technology or understand the workload to make that happen. Now with over 100 shows between the two of us, we're ready to tackle things from a whole new angle!

And for those of you planning to attend the Star Wars Uncut Charity Fundraiser next Thursday night at the Carolina Theater, you can get your tickets right NOW at Acme for 30% OFF! That's right, for a limited time, get you advance tickets for just $7! Above you can check out March Madness II: Rise of the Independents guest Ben Towle's contribution to the silent auction before the screening!

Acme First Look #219 for 1.18.12

Welcome to Thursday! Jermaine always enthusiastically greets people with "Welcome to Wednesday", but, hey, every day is new release day for somebody, so welcome all!

I'm happy to consider yesterday's storms a trade-off for today's sunny skies, especially since grey clouds is a bad mix with my baseball withdrawal this time of year. Just one month and six days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training!

Speaking of baseball, I don't give Jorge Posada as much credit as Jeter for the fact that he played in Greensboro as a Hornet back in the '90s, but I've always been proud that on the Jeter retrospective that ESPN did, Posada hadn't forget about where he came from (at least for a bit), and mentioned the Boro by name. Another member of the Core 4 is retiring this week, a guy I've been watching in my own backyard since I was in short pants, just like Jeet, so all the best to Posada in the future.

A little anxious today, so let's get right to it!

Thanks to everyone that participated in the 1st Annual Acme Awards! Voting is now closed, put we were floored by the response and pleasantly surprised by many of the write-in votes under "Other". It also made for a great recording session!

Last night's show got surprising heartfelt towards the end without any prompting. In a night where all we talked about were our favorite this or our favorite that, I think this one will stick out as one of my favorite episodes of 2011. Listen in tomorrow at 9 AM!

Acme First Look #216 for 12.28.11

Awesome card we just got from Chris G. and the Image crew!

The clock is ticking! People are scrambling! The Wish List has already saved a few Christmases in the hour we've been open this morning! This is that time of year where we put on our pointy shoes and pen our own version of the Santaland Diaries!

I mention it at the end of this week's episode, but if you're an Acmecast listen and you subscribe on iTunes, but sure to check your downloads on Christmas morning for a special surprise!

Finally, there's been some confusion over whether or not answers submitted in the "Other" boxes on the Acme Award Ballot were being accepted. They are! I checked on the progress of the results last night and everything that everyone had mentioned they'd tried to push through was represented. The bottom of your long boxes and the heights of your bookshelves are the limit!

Acme First Look #215 for 12.21.11

The holiday twitch is starting to spread. The guy in front of me at the bank this morning stood there shaking his head for 10 straight minutes while the tellers tried to help him with his problems. Folks are getting worried about have just that right present for the people they love come the 25th. And I've got a little headache behind my eye.

Despite all that, spirits are still running high here at the show, especially after recording Acmecast #56 last night, during which we discuss our favorite Christmas specials from comics, movies and cartoons! Speaking of this week's episode, we also talked to artist Ming Doyle about the Inhumans story in Fantastic Four #600, her webcomic the Loneliest Astronaut, the upcoming Womanthology hardcover from IDW and much more! Tune into the Acme Wave Projector tomorrow at 9 A.M. to hear the finished product!

Acme First Look #214 for 12.14.11

When I woke up this morning, I knew something was different. I starred at the blinds and tried to figure out what it was. And it literally took me a minute to work out that it was the presence of the sun in the sky sans cloud cover. Spirits are high and with the chill it finally feels like December again just 16 official shopping days before Christmas!

I'm legitimately proud of tomorrow's episode of Acmecast. Not because of some feat of editing wizardry or the caliber of our guest, but because we let our passion fly as retailers and comic fans in a big, honest way despite what anyone else will have to say. I think it embodies what we were going for when we started Acmecast over a year ago better than anything else we've done thus far, so I hope you enjoy it at 9 AM here or at Acme Wave Projector.com!

Acme First Look #213 for 12.7.11

Finally! The air is cool, the drinks are hot and it's December!
