COMIC SHOP GLOSSARY OF TERMS

It occurred to me one day that inside the comic shop we speak our very own language.  A language that is as deliberate and intricate as it is bizarre.  So I thought I'd create something of a gateway into this potentially intimidating and impenetrable code.  If you would like to request a definition, please let us know and we'll get right on it.  Or if you see fit to define a term yourself, please submit it to us for review!

Acme First Look #33 for 6.25.08

This is Jermaine Actual! Stephen is ambient at Heroes Con acting as the Acme Comics Proxy (you know, for the kids) so I will be taking over the First Look. How does this thing work? What does that button do?

Next week is going to be an honest-to-goodness killer. Everyone's favorites and frequently requested series seem to be coming. Take a look at your future:

Dave Sim, creator of Cerebus just called the store!

Wow. The phone rings and the caller ID says "Aardvark Vanaheim" and I'm like "huh, is this Dave Sim?" After all this time I have a poker face about these things you wouldn't believe. I answer and it is indeed Dave Sim and he wants to make sure I know about his new comic coming for order shortly called Glamourpuss. I reminded him that he'd actually been at one of our AcmeCon conventions here in the 1980s (before my time though) and he said he remembered. And I of course mentioned that we stocked his Cerebus trades, we sold one as recently as Saturday.

Before we go any further, I want to make a brief stop so I can look for something in my long boxes in the other room. Ah, here it is. Indulge me for just a moment.

Most frequently asked question: So, what do you think about Spider-man One More Day, Part 1

SPOILER ALERT: In these posts, I discuss the events of the One More Day and Brand New Day storylines in detail. You have been warned.

During Marvel's Civil War, Peter Parker revealed his identity to the world. Under pressure from Iron Man, Spider-man was the poster boy for the safety and security of hero registration at the time, Peter Parker did the unthinkable. But he did so not only under pressure but with the go ahead from Aunt May and Mary Jane. The world should finally know who it was risking his life day in and day out. And what greater act of responsibility is there than to say, I am Spider-man and I did the best I could. So everyone then knew exactly who Spider-man was and had always been.

WHO CAN YOU TRUST?

Many of you are excited about Marvel's Secret Invasion story line coming in early 2008, but what are the origins of the event? While we expect it to be very new-reader friendly, this story will have ties to some existing Marvel story lines that are available in trade paperback collections that we carry and restock regularly at Acme Comics. If you're serious about Secret Invasion here are some of the most vital storylines and if you already own these, this will be a reminder of what to re-read.
